In 2016, there were a total of 71,000 pharmaceutical sales representatives in the US. That’s almost one for every 14 doctor’s in the USA.

In the same vein, you could end up with a physician that routinely prescribes expensive brand-name drugs. In some cases, these brand-name drugs may even be less effective than generic alternatives.
